“I voted to endorse Pete Sorenson and only Pete Sorenson for Lane County Commissioner.  After listening to all the candidates, it was obvious he was the most qualified- by far – to be supported by us rank and file, long-time democrats.  For years the wimpy party ‘leadership’ has rigged the rules so that elected precinct democrats had to endorse all democratic candidates.  This time we actually got to choose the best candidate.  Imagine That!”

- Jan Nelson

“I support Pete Sorenson’s re-election because when I first started volunteering for different organizations devoted to protecting Oregon’s beautiful environment, several decades ago, I began to notice Pete Sorenson was always the first elected official to join in our efforts. He has been there for our values time and time again. There is no one as steadfast nor with as much integrity.”

- Sally Nunn, Organizer for Sierra Club

“In 2002, a group of moms and child care providers went to the Lane County Board of Commissioners to ask for much needed training and assistance for local child care workers. Commissioner Sorenson was right there, immediately helping us to obtain a grant, which improved the quality of care for hundreds of our youngest kids.  More recently he worked for our local school campaign. I appreciate that kind of support from an elected official.”

– Joy Marshall

“I support Pete Sorenson and his re-election because of his honesty, loyalty and his love for Lane County and the people who live here — especially the veterans.  Without him, we wouldn’t have the Lane County Veterans Service Office helping thousands of veterans and their families. “

– Judi Greig Lawson

“I support Pete Sorenson’s re-election because he shares my values of caring about people, kids, the environment, and animals. He is principled, smart, dedicated and I laugh at his jokes…which is good because I’m his wife.”

– Kim Leval

“I support Pete Sorenson’s re-election because he’s been effective. Before he came into office, we didn’t have the Community Health Clinics of Lane County. Now we do.”

– Leslie Weinstein

“I support Pete Sorenson and his re-election because he’s been a strong advocate of sensible, long-term public safety solutions.”

– Alan Leiman, attorney, former prosecutor and former Judge

“I support Pete Sorenson’s re-election because Pete is working for a sustainable economy, promoting energy efficiency, and protecting the environment.”

– Kelly Hoell

“I support Pete Sorenson’s re-election because Pete worked for the establishment and funding for Lane County’s Human Rights Commission and then voted to keep it when the Board voted to abolish it.”

– Mike Knefaty

“I support Pete Sorenson’s re-election because he’s worked hard for South Eugene’s values.”

– Jerry Rust, retired Lane County Commissioner

“I support Pete Sorenson’s re-election because he is a national leader — the only county commissioner in the nation who testified on decoupling legislation and followed it through to signing.”

– Rich Fairbanks

“I’m supporting Pete Sorenson’s re-election because the Democratic Party of Lane County endorsed him, and no other candidates for the South Eugene Commissioner seat and, besides that, Pete always does the right thing, at the right time and for the right reasons.

In Senator Floyd Prozanski’s op-ed piece (RG, 4/15/12), he claims that “It saddens us to take this position concerning a friend and colleague,” the “us” being Prozanski along with Senator Lee Beyer, Rep. Paul Holvey, Rep. Phil Barnhart, Rep. Terry Beyer, Rep. Nancy Nathanson and Rep. Val Hoyle and the “friend” and “colleague” being County Commissioner Pete Sorenson, who is running for reelection. With friends like these, Sorenson certainly needs no enemies. While lauding the qualities of Andy Stahl, which may be well deserved, Prozanski proceeded to heap criticism on Sorenson that exceeded reason. He mischaracterized the Democratic Party of Lane County’s regular monthly central committee meeting, during which Sorenson was indeed endorsed as the candidate for county commissioner by a majority vote, as an “endorsement meeting.”

The Register Guard is to be commended for placing Prozanski’s article beside Andy Kerr’s, which was a model of fairness in treating both Stahl and Sorenson with respect and putting forth logical and factual reasons why Sorenson is better suited to the job of county commissioner. While the real reason behind the anger of Prozanski and his colleagues may never come to light, it is time to stop the bashing and reelect Pete Sorenson, the most highly qualified and experienced person for the job!”
